What am I watching in 2016?

Hello friends! I know I have been AWOL for the last couple of years, but I hope to continue with this blog this time around. I've got a recap post for the last few years in the works, but right now, let's discuss the shows I'm watching this year:

1. Sherlock
This BBC show climbed to the top of my favorite TV shows list when it first aired in 2010 and despite only 3 episodes every 2 years, it continues to be my favorite. There is no season this year, but a special episode called The Abominable Bride was aired early this year. As much as I love Benedict Cumberbatch as a  modern day Sherlock, I was absolutely thrilled to see him play a 19th century Holmes. Truth be told, now that I have seen him in that original avatar, I'm not sure which setting I actually prefer.

2. Marvel's Daredevil
If you don't know what I am talking about, are you sure you are a earthling? Netflix produced the TV adaptation of Marvel's superhero Daredevil last season in 2015. The whole season released simultaneously and I think I binge-watched the first season that very weekend. I had been a fan of Ben Affleck's Dardevil, but Charlie Cox brings a fresh vulnerability to this lawyer-during-day-vigilante-at-night superhero. Of course, even those who have not watched the show, are familiar with its viral hallway fight scene:

Netflix released the second season of Daredevil this March and it was a perfect birthday present for me!

3. Houdini and Doyle
I recently started watching the limited series about the real-life friendship of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and the great Houdini. I was not aware that the two were not only contemporaries but good friends. I do not know how much of the story is rooted in reality, but it sure makes for a fascinating watch. In the series, the two team up with the first-ever woman constable of Scotland Yard to solve crimes of the supernatural kind.

4. Old shows
The shows that I'm still watching mainly include Bones and The Big Bang Theory. While TBBT continues to go strong, Bones will air its final season later this year.

So that's all that I can think of at the moment. If I remember any other good shows that I watched this year, I'll be sure to update you. Meanwhile, let me know in the comments below which shows you are watching this year and which you would recommend to me. Until next time..

The Firm...ending too soon

The show is based on the characters of John Grisham’s novel of the same name published in 1991. The novel was adapted into a movie starring Tom Cruise in the lead role of Mitch McDeere, a fresh grad from Harvard Law. The show is created by Lukas Reiter, and Grisham himself is an executive producer on the show.

In this television reboot, the story picks off ten years after the events of the movie. After taking down the Memphis tax law firm of Bendini, Lambert and Locke, Mitch went into Federal Witness Protection Program along with his wife and brother, Ray. Now Mitch has a teenage daughter and he has decided to come out of Wit-Sec. But it seems that the mob is still after him.

The series was short lived but it had all the elements of a typical John Grisham legal thriller. Josh Lucas portrayed a perfect Mitch McDeere, and while the 90’s movie starring Tom Cruise failed to hold my attention, this series kept me hooked throughout this run. The romance between Abee and Mitch was very endearing; the chemistry between the couple was quite skillfully shown. The comfort level between high school sweethearts who have been married for more than ten years was plainly evident.

Talking about cliffhangers…The series finale of the newbie reboot of John Grisham’s The Firm, almost literally ended on a cliffhanger. The last scene shows Mitch running from some unknown followers, just like the famous run sequence in the season premiere, and the series end as Mitch jumps off the roof presumably to  land on the opposite building. But we will never know if Mitch reaches across safely or not. Just as we will never know if Louis, Moraltos and the McDeeres actually decide to gang up against the Russian mob and the FBI.

I almost wish John Grisham would write a sequel to this fabulous series which took forward the story he wrote in his bestseller. Tell me; is there a precedent for this sort of a thing? Can it be done? Until there is some good news on that front let’s keep our fingers crossed.

Partners on CBS: The most promising comedy this fall!

Partners is a new comedy that is all set to premiere on CBS on September 24, 2012 at 8:30 pm. The show comes from the same people that gave us the very popular Will and Grace. The sitcom features two childhood friends (Louis and Joe), who have gone on to become architects and consequently start their own firm together.

Couple #1: Joe and Louis - bros forever of Partners
Joe is played by David Krumholtz (Numb3rs) who has lost the boyish charm he exuded as Professor Charlie Eppes in Numb3rs. But the charm is not totally gone, it has evolved into a more mature confidence in his personality. Joe plays the straight guy and he has a gorgeous fiance, Ali (Sophia Bush).

Fringe season 4: S04E19 - first glimpse at the world in 2036

With just 4 episodes left in the fourth season of Fringe, we get a first look at the World in 2036…and it is indeed a shocker. This is NOT the world that Peter envisioned when he stepped into the Machine at the end of Season 3. That was the future Peter saw if he had decided to save the prime universe and sacrifice the alternate one. But Peter decided to build a bridge between both the universes that would help them resolve their differences and co-exist peacefully.

The Observers have taken over the world
The grim episode, aptly titled "Letters of Transit", starts with a gloomy news flash down the screen. It recounts the story of how the Observers successfully attempted to take over our Universe in 2015. Despite resistance from the Fringe Team, the Observers are still running the affairs of the Earth in 2036. In the video below you can watch the news flash, along with the new title sequence which we can now expect to see throughout the Season 5 of Fringe (and the remaining run of the series, since the 13 episode Season 5 is supposed to be its last).

First Impressions of Fringe Season 4

Season 3 finale recap:
Now that was something that I really did not see coming...Peter Bishop (Joshua Jackson) risking his life and possibly the future of our very universe by climbing into the Machine. Then instead of choosing a single universe and causing doom to the other, creating a bridge between the two so they could sort out their differences face to face...and then disappearing from the very face of the earth altogether before he could fully explain his noble plans...

The season 3 finale ends with Observers standing outside the Liberty Tower and remarking that everyone has indeed forgotten Peter as he has been written out of all timelines, new or old.

Fringe Season 4:
Season 4 starts with all traces of Peter vanished from the minds of everyone. Apparently, both the Peters died in their childhood; as it was actually ordained to happen before Walter's gross intervention in the matters of the universe.

Greetings!!

I don't know if there will be an audience for my blog, but if there is, this blog post is must-read for new visitors.

In my first post, I'll attempt to explain what I plan to blog here about. As is evident from it's name, this blog is going to be all about TV shows. More specifically, the TV shows that I have watched, intend to watch, don't want to watch or any other show that I want to express my opinion about.

So stay tuned for my opinions on some of the TV shows currently on US television networks and cable!
